The South Island of New Zealand Never Disappoints

We went to the Tekapo Canal on the South Island of New Zealand last week. The fishing was just insane until another COVID-19 lockdown hit, we barely made it back to Auckland. You never know what’s going to happen these days when you are traveling to fly fish.

I was using a Scott Radian 10ft 5wt, paired with the all-new Ross Reels San Miguel 5/6. The fly fishing method of choice was Czech nymphing. The biggest rainbow we caught was 24lb and some others were around 16-20lb. Talk about some big fish on a 5 weight setup! Here are some photos from our trip….

Article and photos from Kiyoshi Nakagawa who hails from Japan but resides in Auckland, New Zealand these days. He is a professional fly fishing guide and photographer. Give him a follow at @nzyoshi.
