“After my last class of the day ended at 7:30 PM, we decided to drive 7 hours to a river that holds Steelhead. Even with it being around 3:00 AM, I decided that I at least needed to try and catch one, so we hopped out of the car, rigged our fly rods, and got to fishing.
After about an hour, I hooked up onto a fish, and knowing that there was extremely fast water below me, I tried to steer him towards the river bank as fast as possible. Luckily, the fish made the mistake of running straight towards us, and my friend was able to net it before it even really had the chance to fight.
I quickly realized this was the fish I went out there for, a 35” to 37” Steelhead. Fighting it in the dark made it all the more stressful, and if it weren’t for the fish making a mistake, I doubt I would have ever landed it. This fish will most certainly be on my mind for years to come!“
