Sage rods, one of the most respected names in the industry, has just announced the release of a brand-new saltwater fly rod family, dubbed the Signal.
Built on the company’s KonneticHD technology, the Signal is a fast-action rod that Sage says is “built around the idea that great saltwater fishing is all about reading signs; a tailing fish, a sudden V-wake, your guide’s hands tightening on the push pole. Those moments signal it’s your time to shine.”

Retailing for $795, Sage promises that the Signal has great loop control, “tenacious strength,” and is a rod that casts effortlessly. One guide who got to fish the rod before its release, Captain Lacey Kelly of Florida, said that “the Signal makes it easy to sneak into the cookie jar. Performance at every distance and the in-close finesse to make it count.”
Signal rods are available in weights 6 to 12-wt, with 9′ being the only length option. The rods feature a deep blue blank with light trim wraps, a fully-anodized aluminum reel seat, and Sage’s usual top-notch cork grips.
This rod announcement follows Sage’s longstanding practice of putting the technology from their previous top-of-the-line rods into lower-priced models. Sage’s KonneticHD graphite was the foundation for the company’s flagship X series, as well as the Igniter ultra-fast rods. It’s also currently used in the Dart, Sage’s small-water rod series, and the company’s new Arrow lineup of all-around trout rods. Anglers should be able to rest easy knowing that while the Signal isn’t the highest-priced offering in Sage’s lineup, it’s built on solid bones that have been in use for more than a decade.
