Any experienced flats angler will tell you that it’s best to keep your distance from sharks you see patrolling the flats. Not only do you risk something like the video below happening, but it’s also likely that there are no fish around because two apex predators are moving around in the shallow water. That being said the video below, from our good friend Josh Hutchins (@AussieFlyFisher), shows a lucky encounter with a fired-up shark on the flats that chased in the fish that he had hooked on the end of his line.

We’re glad Josh made it out of this encounter without any bloody ankles (or worse). But the fact remains, it’s best to take Hank Patterson’s wildlife viewing advice when you spot that telltale fin in the shallows and “stay the f**k away.”
