It’s with heavy hearts that we share the news of Ansil Saunders’ passing over the weekend of June 29th, 2024. Ansil’s life is not one to be easily summarized in a paragraph or an article, and perhaps the best way to get to know him briefly is by watching the film Mighty Waters, which is about Ansil, his time with Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and his impact on Bahamian independence and civil rights. 

The Bahamas and bonefishing lost a true pioneer over the weekend, and our thoughts and prayers are with the Saunders family, the island of Bimini, and everyone who had the honor of spending time with this giant among men.

Through this film and our interview with the director (found here), we got to know Ansil and apply his life’s lessons to our own. Whether you’re an angler or a passing visitor, the film is well worth watching today.
