Simms has announced the launch of a new marketplace for reselling your used fly fishing gear. Dubbed Simms ReCast, the marketplace gives you an opportunity to pass on your old or unused Simms gear for either store credit or cash.
Simms ReCast is framed as a sustainable way to offload your gear without it ending up in a landfill. It’s reminiscent of Patagonia’s Worn Wear program, although ReCast sounds like it will allow you to directly sell your gear to other people.
Per the website, when you list an item on ReCast, you can choose to receive either 100% of the listed price in credit towards another Simms purchase, or you can take 70% of the sale price as a direct cash payout. Also, unlike the Worn Wear program, it doesn’t appear that ReCast will focus on repairing and reselling gear. Simms ReCast gear will likely sell in as-is condition.
Still, it’s an interesting idea to help you get something out of a previous Simms gear purchase. The ability to apply 100% of the sale price towards a new pair of waders, for example, makes the G4Z waders look more affordable.
ReCast is currently only open to listing items, but Simms says it should open for purchases soon. It’s also worth noting that you can’t currently resell waders.
