Improved Materials

The G3 lineup of waders has been around for more than 20 years, and with that, each model brings an improvement in materials and construction. The new G3 Pro Collection is touted as Simms’ most substantial advancement in the collection’s history, but what does that mean for anglers? The basis of this claim stems from a new GORE-TEX construction used in both the upper and lower parts of the G3 Pro.

Simms selected GORE-TEX Pro, which is a breathable and highly puncture-resistant technical fabric. The wader lowers all benefit from four-layer construction, while the uppers all feature 3-layer construction. The combination makes for a durable lower wader, where most of the wear and tear occurs, and a lighter, more breathable upper. In fact, Simms claims the G3 Pro Collection is 60% more resistant to pinhole punctures than the previous G3 models, which is reassuring considering the price point of a premium wader.

New Models

The G3 Pro Wader Collection features four new models, adding two new versions over the previous G3 collection. These models include men’s stockingfoot, women’s stockingfoot, and most notably two zip-front models (stockingfoot and bootfoot). The G3Z zip-front models include a TiZip front zipper, the same zipper found in G4Z models, allowing for easy on and off and full waterproof protection.

New for this year, the G3 Pro Collection features the first G3 zip-front models.

In addition, G3 Pro models feature a redesigned shoulder strap system for improved comfort during long days on the water, plus zippered hand-warmer pockets. The hand warmer pockets include higher-pile fleece to warm your fingers faster and dry your hands faster. Lastly, each model offers ample storage for fly boxes, leaders, tools, and other on-the-water essentials.

Every pair of G3 Pro models is built in Bozeman, Montana. Depending on the model, prices range from $800 for standard stockingfoots to $900 for the zip-front models. Bootfoot models start at $1,100, a price jump that’s expected given the built-in boots.

Warranty

No matter how puncture-resistant or durable a pair of waders is, they’ll inevitably fail. When you’re investing a decent amount of money in a new pair, warranty is an important factor to consider. The new G3 Pro Collection is backed by Simms lifetime guarantee. This means if your waders fail due to manufacturer defects, Simms will repair or replace the waders at no cost to anglers. For other accidental damage, Simms also has you covered with its in-house wader repair team that will fix your waders starting at just $60.

Final Thoughts on the G3 Pro Collection

Simms made the G3 Pro Collection with serious anglers in mind. The combination of state-of-the-art textiles, a redesigned shoulder strap system, and the added zip-front models makes this a serious contender for anyone looking for a new set of waders. Best of all, this technology is all available in a G3 system, so you don’t have to jump to the G4 model if you want a zip-front.
