Catastrophic Failures at Two Michigan Dams Results in Mass Evacuations

Last night, Michigan Governor, Gretchen Whitmer, announced two dams in mid-Michigan breached, initiating state of emergency and evacuation orders. Edenville and Sanford dams, which are both on the Tittabawassee River failed, potentially putting downtown Midland, MI under nine feet of water.

The dams breached due to historic river levels and pre-saturated soils. As of this morning, 10,000 people have been affected by the evacuation notice. This is a very unfortunate reminder of the dangers of dams and difficulty to restrain Mother Nature.

Our thoughts go out to the affected Michiganders and communities. For more on this story, check out this CNN article.
