A 22-Inch Brown From a Tiny Stream

My favorite type of fly fishing is anything small stream! And this brown trout is exactly why!

I’ve fished these tiny creeks for years, and every once in a while a big fish will come out from under a bank or, in this case, a huge rock shelf and tear up some flies.

I walked up to this little bend in the creek where I saw two good 16” fish, which is about as big as they come for this tiny tailwater, so I decided to throw my sculpin in and rip it up the seam. And right as I did so, this tank 22” brown came out and inhaled it. After that, the fight was on. After about 3 minutes of him ripping up and down the cliffside, I jumped in the water and roped him in.

Was a catch of a lifetime for me!
