Welcome back to another episode of The Flylords Podcast, where we sit down with anglers, guides, and fishy people to learn more about their journeys into fly fishing. In today’s episode, we sit down with legendary guide and angler Captain Paul Dixon to learn more about his journey into the fly fishing history books.
Dixon grew up in California, where he took to fishing at a young age. As his angling career progressed, he eventually came across fly fishing, and the rest was history. He then took his new skill set to the East Coast in search of striped bass on the fly. After purchasing one of the first skiffs on Long Island, he pioneered flats fishing for stripers. At the same time, he began guiding in the Florida Keys for bonefish, tarpon, and permit, growing his client list and his status as a legendary flats guide.

His book, Looking Through Water, has been adapted into the newest fly fishing movie starring Michael Douglas, Cameron Douglas, David Morse, and Michael Stahl-David. Dixon himself played a pivotal role amongst the star-studded cast as the fly fishing coordinator. His job: to make sure the fly fishing scenes were perfect, down to every piece of gear, cast, and knot. Check out our full interview with Captain Paul Dixon. This is one you don’t want to miss.
