I have traveled all my life beyond the beaten path in search of great fisheries, and in the early 2000s, I traveled a lot to Central America in search of giant tarpon.
In 2001, my buddy Freddy and I stumbled across some promising spots in Nicaragua, we found a place that you couldn’t point to on a map, a place that had no cell phone reception and a place even the locals didn’t know well… We knew we had come to the right place.
The tarpon fishery proved difficult with shy giant tarpon in small creeks, bays, and rivers. In 2007 I decided to bring my float tube and fish totally DIY and approach the fish as silently as possible.
The approach was very successful and to this day I’ve caught fish up to 200 lbs from the tube, the rest is history.
In 2010 @jbkristensen and I shot the now classic multi award-winning flyfishing film “Tapâm” there, in 2012 I facilitated and coordinated the shoot of one the most successful river monsters episodes, namely “Killer Torpedo” for season 6.
Jeremy Wade catches a giant tarpon from a small raft on a fly rod in an epic achievement. In 2014 a small fishing lodge was built by Danes.
