Simms Launches Vapor Elite Jacket

Simms has launched their newest wading jacket, the Vapor Elite

Simms bills this jacket as “the ultimate packable rainwear solution.” It’s built with stretch and movement in mind, so it shouldn’t feel like a stiff, inflexible piece of gear like so many other rain jackets do.

The packable claim looks legit, as you can see in this photo:

It packs into its own chest pocket, so it should easily fit in a sling pack, backpack, or even a vest, if you end up not needing it. At 15.2 ounces, it’s light enough that you won’t notice it’s there, either.

The Vapor Elite doesn’t feature GORE-TEX, but utilizes nylon covered with 3L Toray PrimeFlex. It comes with a standard DWR treatment, as well. This jacket isn’t insulated, so it’s designed as more of a three-season solution, or to be worn with other insulating layers underneath it.

Other notable features include:

  • Toray Primeflex yarn for a high degree of stretch and recovery
  • An adjustable and secure 3-point hood
  • Weather-resistant YKK Aquaguard front zipper
  • Two zippered hand pockets

The Vapor Elite retails for $349.95, and is available now from Simms or your local fly shop.
