Reel of the Week: Finding the Most Aggressive School of Redfish

A note from Pete Scafaru (@marshonthefly):

“This is my 10th year guiding full-time in Louisiana. I’ve only seen a handful of redfish jump out of the water-chased out by sharks or leaping out after shrimp. Here’s my theory about this day: there is a little known spring worm spawning event in Louisiana- they are like a smaller version of cinder/palolo worms. I think that these mature Redfish gorged themselves on these worms for 2 or 3 days and got real happy together. We were on these fish just after that event and they were still all worked up and definitely not behaving normally. At one point we were surrounded by a couple thousand fish that were oblivious to us. The jumping was just a result of them being so thick together that they had no where to swim. At heart redfish are school fish.”
