State regulators in Montana have consistently disregarded water quality laws while issuing permits for the expansion of a crucial coal mine, the Montana Supreme Court declared on Wednesday. Consequently, the court nullified the permit for Rosebud Mine, which is expected to impact three separate mine expansion permits previously granted by Montana’s Department of Environmental Quality. Rosebud Mine, situated in southeast Montana and owned by Westmoreland Mining LLC, supplies coal to the Colstrip Power Plant.
