Angler Story of the Week: Catching the Toothiest Fish on the Planet

A Note from Ryan (@ryan_izquierdo):

There’s nothing quite like catching a Payara on the fly. Think acrobatic tarpon but a worse hookup ratio, Massive fangs, that escaped out of chernobyl or Draculas fish tank! These fish live in strong currents in the Amazon River Basin and are ambush Predators. Using their fangs to puncture unsuspecting baitfish, slicing up their prey into pieces before eating!

This fish was part of a triple hook up and I was able to sightfish it following another hooked Payara before engulfing my fly boatside! After an unbelievable fight taking me to my backing and gut wrenching jumps and headshakes, I was able to secure her in the boat. The fly was a “Vampire Slayer” by Payara Fly Fishing, in a custom tie of Black, Gold, Orange, and Yellow resembling a local Amazonian Delicacy of the Payara, the Banded Leporinus. The fish weighs 24 pounds and stretched almost a meter in length, fishing at the @Payara_Kingdom After 4 trips to the Amazon Jungle I was finally able to land this fish of a lifetime!
